I read with fascination Manolo's essay on Japan and its complicated relationship with the West. Untying the knot that is the colonial past and the desired nationalistic and self reliant future, it was as much about the Philippines as it was about Japan.
It explains why most of us cannot help but have mixed feelings about the US and rest of the West, f eeling both attracted and repulsed by its promises and excesses, and protected and violated by its embrace.
Which explains this hilarious video clip being emailed around: about Japan's revenge and the shocking truth about sushi!!! It's an absolute must-see.
